Neurology is the medical discipline dealing with the diagnosis and treatment of diseases and disorders of the nervous system – the central and peripheral nervous system. As part of the Neurocenter, we cooperate on treatment with neurosurgeons, radiologists and other colleagues as part of the Comprehensive Cerebrovascular Center Stroke Programme and multidisciplinary ICU. This cooperation enables us to achieve excellent long-term treatment outcomes.
Neurology has a long tradition in Liberec Hospital. The department was one of the first wards in the country. Over the last decade there has been significant development in the sector following the new diagnostic laboratory and imaging (radiology) possibilities. The care provided in the neurology department Liberec Hospital fully reflects this development.
Since 1994 neurology has been part of the Neurocenter, along with neurosurgery. In 2011 the Comprehensive Cerebrovascular Center was approved by the Ministry for Health. The neurology bed fund is a key part of the centre, where diagnosis takes place for patients with cerebrovascular disease in the context of the stroke programme.
The outpatient part of the facility includes a laboratory for electroencephalography (EEG), electromyography (EMG), somotosensory and motor Evoked Potentials (EP) and neurosonography, as well as a specialized outpatient clinic for seizure disorders (particularly epilepsy), headache (migraine, tension headache), and extrapyramidal, neuromuscular, demyelinating and vascular diseases. The specialist outpatients clinic is led by neurologists trained and certified in the given issues. A consultancy service for all departments of the hospital is also part of our work.
The standard bed ward has 34 beds in 12 rooms. The rooms are equipped with televisions. Rooms with upgraded amenities and bathroom facilities are shared with the Department of Neurosurgery.
Intensive care beds, including 5 stroke unit beds, are part of the multidisciplinary intensive care unit (neurology, neurosurgery, orthopedics).
